Artist's Statement:
Music seems to be an inherent property of life, an expression that is innate to existence. During my time with music, it has lead me to exploring its more transformational properties, in particular its ability to overcome perceived boundaries within and without us. These transformations can be of a wide variety, from simply improving one’s mood to providing deep catharsis.
I studied music composition for my undergraduate degree and also received a masters in Ayurveda and sound healing. Throughout my experience in and out of school, music has held profound positions in people’s lives to help overcome illness, as an aid to the grieving process, enhancing all variety of activities, expanding meditation practices and much more.
The ways in which we experience music through melody, rhythm, tempo and its other elements, allows for deeper exploration into more challenging emotions, feelings and moods. Music has a way of meeting us where we are without words or conflict of interest - it simply provides a little movement to our present state of mind. My graduate research suggested that it is at this juncture where transformation is most possible, at some kind of edge between where we are, and where we could go next. I write music that is meant to help nudge us into new places where perspectives might shift and beneficial ways of interacting with ourselves emerge.
Sonotropic is the pseudonym I write music under. Here is a link to some of my latest work:
